More about Katie Smith

In today’s world we are all moving so quickly that it is sometimes difficult to make connections and get to know people.  That is why I put together this list.  If you are here reading this then you may be considering hiring me to assist you with the purchase or sale of your home.  Through that process, I get the opportunity to know so much about my clients that I feel it is only fair you get the opportunity to know me.  By knowing more about me, you have the chance to know if we may be a good fit to work together.  You may find we have a lot in common or only a few things in common.  However, I do this so people will feel comfortable inviting me into their homes instead of feeling I am a total stranger.

Without further delay, here is my list of things you might enjoy knowing about your REALTOR.

A LONG time ago I graduated from a State Teachers College in West Virginia. (Glenville State – Physical Education).

While in College, my best girlfriend from Kindergarten on up, was attending West Virginia Wesleyan College, just a short drive away.

Of course, once she got engaged, she had to introduce me to her Fiancé's best friend.

You got it!  His name was Bill and we got married after I finished college.

My husband enlisted in the Army and we never looked back.

Our first duty assignment was Ft Meade and then Ft. Belvoir.

We spent 4 years in Germany and yes, you got it.  That is where our son was born.  Benjamin was born on Christmas Day!

We traveled all over Europe and loved every minute of it!  Ben saw Europe from a backpack!

Once we got transferred home, Bill had a massive stroke.  Unfortunately, he spent 22 years living 100% totally and permanently disabled before passing away.  That left me a single mom and made me strong.  It also allowed Ben and I to develop a bond that few parents enjoy with their children.

My respect for the Veterans’ Administration in the care of my husband for 22 years, motivated me to give back.  I applied to be a State of Maryland VA Commissioner and was appointed more than 25 years ago.  It is the least I can do.  We don’t get paid.  Our heart is taking care of the Veterans.

Through the years I spent a lot of time in my church and Ben and I were able to travel to Nicaragua to help establish a Sister Parish in a small town outside of Managua. (Having spent a week in a thatched hutch gave Ben  meaning to the words, “Be thankful for the food on the table and the roof over your head”)

Since I was on my own with Ben since he turned 2, I then had to always work a part time job along with my full time job.  No complaints here.  I learned a lot and was able to instill in Ben great work ethics and determination.

My interests have always included traveling.  I have been to Fiji but really prefer Hawaii... that is where my heart and soul is!

Another fun thing I like is my car club.  I worked hard to pay for my Mercedes so just HAD to join the club and become President of the MD, VA, DC area!  The club is so much fun!

I have also owned my own Boutique in downtown Bethesda but closed it in 2008...really didn’t like that year!

My whole life I have only read “self-help” books!  I love trying to figure myself out to make myself better.

When I traveled to Fiji, it was actually to be with Tony Robbins and 99 other people, on his estate for 10 days.

Well, how in the world did I get into Real Estate???  I loved the idea of investing so took EVERY investment course offered!  I actually became a professional investor.

Of course I had to surprise my son and give me a house for his birthday....he then asked me how in the world I did that!

Hence the beginning of BWK Corporation.  Ben started taking all the trainings and we started working together!

The great part about us working as a team...I had the impossible ideas, then Ben would laugh and say “Let’s try and bring this down a notch to make it a reality”

As time progressed, we both decided to get our Real Estate License so we would have a better understanding of contracts!  It worked!

Even though Ben is ahead of me and has is Associate Broker’s License, we work together, not only as agents but as investors too. He is also with Coldwell Banker works in Atlanta.  We really enjoy helping one another out as people transfer between Georgia and Maryland and vice-versa

Today, I have remarried and live with my Wonderful husband in Ellicott City.

Yes, I am truly Blessed!
